Under 9 A vs St Cross A

St Cross A 306 for 4, EMWCC A 248 for 12.

A closer game than the scores suggest. We fielded first, and we fielded well with a great catch by William Kent in the deep. Our bowling was not bad but we gave away 50 runs in extras. More practice needed.

Batting wise, Alistair Reid-Thomas and Charlie Macdonald got us off to a good start and Toby Andrews batted well and hit some lusty blows. However we were pegged back by accurate bowling and some fiendish catching.

Overall we actually scored more runs than St Cross but it was the extras and the wickets that did for us. So we will be ready for them for the return match later in the season when our bowling and defensive strokes will be much better!

Ted's Top Tip: a straight double bouncer needs to be stopped ( with a straight bat) - a dot ball is better than minus 5! (Don't rely on the umpire calling a no ball).
