Easton & Martyr Worthy 2’s away to East Woodhay 2’s on Saturday 13th August 2016

At a very picturesque village ground on the outskirts of East End, skip Foreman lost the toss and East Woodhay elected to bat on a peach of a wicket (by far the best we have played on this season). Easton had 10 men and another 2 who needed to be away at 7pm.

Easton got off to a good start with Trevor Foreman removing both opening batsmen with 15 runs on the board. The next wicket fell at 80 in the 13th over and the fourth at a mighty 206 in the 32nd over. Hoskin ( 44 ), Chakerbarty ( 96 ) and Chapman ( 57 ) all put bat to ball to accelerate the score on a very fast outfield. An excellent spell by Adam Murch and the returning Ben Stanbrough, well supported by U15 colt Ben Cholerton and evergreen Trevor Yeates kept the score down with wickets falling on a regular basis. East Woodhay finished up on 260 for 8 with the following bowling figures for Easton: Trevor Foreman 10-1-46-3, Ben Stanbrough 10-0-63-2, Trevor Yeates 10-0-65-0, Ben Cholerton 6-0-46-0 and Adam Murch 6-0-27-2.

Dave Ling and Trevor Foreman opened the batting for Easton with Dave hitting boundaries off anything pitched up or short to keep Easton up with the asking run rate of 6.2 runs per over. Dave was unluckily caught off a leg glance for a typically hard hit 54 (9 fours ) in the 13th over in an opening partnership of 73!

Angus Macloud, batting up the order, then joined Trevor at the wicket and played his best innings of the season and the best shots of the match to scorch to 85 (2 sixes and 9 fours) to take the score to 216 off 34 overs with Easton slightly ahead of the required run-rate. Andy Macloud was bowled for 4 and Rupert Brow ( 11 )then joined Trevor to take the score to 252 when Trevor, with a bat borrowed from Gareth Goodall, was run out for a well-crafted 89 ( 10 fours ). Ben Stanbrough and Trevor Yeates eased Easton to 261 for the loss of 5 wickets in the 42nd over to give Easton a magnificent win full of character and determination with Easton securing 23 and East Woodhay 9 points from the match.

The man of the match award (and the Pink cap) went to Angus Macloud for his boundary strewn innings of 85.
