Easton beaten by the better team on the day

Skip Trev Foreman lost the toss and was asked to bat on simply the best wicket we have seen to date. Adrian Lee and Trev opened the batting with fast bowlers Bradley and Henwood getting the expected bounce from a hard wicket and swing from the overcast conditions.
The score had progressed to 45 for none when Trev was caught in the slips off change spin bowler Brace for 12 and Adrian followed shortly thereafter for 24 (4 fours) having been bowled by Brace. Evergreen Martin Hall and Rupert Brow took the score to 89 off 27 overs when Rupert was caught off leg spinner Bradley for 4.

Dave Ling then joined Martin at the wicket and the two took the score to 110 off 32 overs when Martin was bowled by Bradley for a well hit top score of 35 (1 six and 5 fours).Good contributions by Dave (16), father and son Andy and Angus Macleod (4 and 12) with Angus playing the shot of the day, a bullet of a cover drive for 4 off Brace. Wickets then tumbled in the pursuit of quick runs and Easton reached 143 for 9 at the end of their allotted overs.

Whilst all the Silchester bowlers did their bit, spin twins Brace & Bradley were largely responsible for Easton’s low score and this is reflected in their combined bowling figures of 20-4-60-5.

Rae Lockyer and Ben Stanbrough opened the bowling for Easton, beating the bat on a number of occasions but without much luck. The first wicket fell at 66 in the 13th over after the introduction of u15 colt Spencer Lee who bowled very well to finish off his spell of 6 overs with 2 wickets for 29 and the Pink Cap for the Easton man of the match award.

The two Trev’s (Yeates and Foreman) did their best to take wickets but to no avail as Silchester reached their target of 144 in the 32nd over with Jones and Demand not out on 47 and 36 respectively.

Other bowling figures were as follows: Rae (0 for 24 off 5), Ben (0 for 27 off 5), Trevor Yeates ( 0 for 39 off 10 into a stiff breeze!) Trev Foreman (0 for 10 off 5) and Rupert Brow ( 0 for 7 off 1).

Silchester earned 23 points and Easton 5 from the match and some comfort can be taken from feedback received from the Silchester guys that Easton were the best side that they had played to date!
