Skip Foreman was pleased to win the toss and insert Holybourne on a drying wicket at the David Roth Memorial ground.
U15 colt Arthur Lee , making his 2nd 11 debut, and 16 year old Ollie Freemantle opened the bowling and soon had the batsman struggling with some fine swing and seam bowling. After 12 overs Holybourne were 37 for 2 with Lee's figures of 0 for 13 and Freemantle's 2 for 9 a reflection of the skill they both bowled with in a fiery opening spell.
After the youth came the experience and Trev Yeates and Trev Foreman kept the Holybourne batsmen under pressure with spells of 10-2-29-0 and 10-3-22-1 respectively. Lee and Freemantle then returned to bowl just as well in their final 4 overs as they did at the top of the innings with Lee returning figures of 10-1-30-2 and Freemantle 10-2-22-3. Matt Bolland and Ben Stanbrough bowled the final two overs and Holybourne finished on 135 for 6 including 35 extra's. EMW put in a decent fielding performance with U15 colt Ben Cholerton catching the eye with his speed to the ball and throwing to the keeper.
EWCC found batting just as difficult but important contributions from Foreman ( 22 ) U15 colt Rob Dyer ( 10 including , for his second 2nd 11 match, the shot of the day-an off drive this time!) Angus Macleod ( 12 ) and Arthur Lee ( 7 ) kept the board ticking over to provide a platform for the ever reliable Dave Ling ( 59 not out with one 6 and 7 fours ) to again play the match winning innings with valuable support from Matt Bolland ( 6 not out).
EMW picked up 21 and Holybourne 6 points from the match.
