Banks, Dickety and Griffin Star in Round 1 Win

Easton & MW vs Sway - NVKO Round 1

After the rain continued to fall up until the morning of the game, the sun finally came out to dry the pitch and allow us to get the season underway properly.

Easton lost the toss and were put into bat by Sway. Opening with Dean Griffin and John Sparks, Easton were in early trouble when John Sparks was caught with a brilliant diving catch and was quickly followed back to the pavillion by Paul Sanders and Jordon Banks who were both bowled. This brought Jamie Banks to the crease where along with Dean put on a 150 partnership. With the help of a couple of dropped catches Jamie and Dean propelled Easton to in excess of 160 with some brilliant stroke play. When Dean was finally caught for a brilliant 89 Easton were in a strong position. Jamie then continued to bat with Sam Dickety and Joel Green stealing singles where they could to give Banks the strike. Eventually Jamie was ran out on the last ball for 78 with Green 5 not out the other end. Easton finished their 40 overs on 186 for 6

With a tough score to chase Sway started slowly as they were given no easy balls from the evergreen Trevor Foreman and Rae Lockyer who both bowled their alloted 9 overs straight through Foreman only conceeding 15 runs and Lockyer 25. Although Sway had not lost a wicket due to the brilliant control of the bowling and excellent fielding from the whole Easton team Sway could not get the scoreboard moving. Now requiring 140 from 22 overs they still had all of their wickets in hand. Enter Jamie Banks and Sam Dickety to bowl. With the run rate creeping up wickets started to fall first Joel Green took a brilliant diving catch to take the first wicket. The with the pace of Banks and the spin from Dickety at the other end wickets fell at regular intervals as Sway tried to up the run rate. Banks taking 3 for 35 with two bowled and one caught by Dean Griffin and Dickety finishing with 6 for 35 by bolwing one, two catches and a stumping for wicket keeper and captain Mark Dickety and a caught and bowled Sway finished on 139 for 9
