A fantastic weekend for Easton And Martyr Worthy Cricket Club was topped off with a decisive victory for the E&MWCC 1st XI by 2 wickets over Old Basing 1st XI. Academy coach Ian Stewart joined the side for the first time this season alongside club pro James Schofield as the side took to the field searching for their first win of the season.
1st team captain Mark Padwick won the toss and elected to bowl on a green wicket and in the first summer heat. This decision proved to be the right one as Ash Wilmott and Adam Kite opened strongly. Both bowlers hit solid lines throughout their opening spells. Wilmott trapped one in front in his second over before he dismissed Old Basing's number three without scoring; leaving one that came back in to clip the top of his off stump.
Jamie Banks had been a rock in the middle overs during previous weeks but struggled to find his lines on this occasion. Despite this, Banks still managed to pin down a floundering Old Basing top order as he bowled in tandem with Padwick who also continued to test a batting line up that consistently lacked class.
Ian Stewart and James Schofield sured the game up in the latter overs. Stewart's variations and Schofield's changes in pace proved too much for the Old Basing middle and lower order. Schofield finished with 5.
