The Toss Decided the game

EMWCC 2’s hosted Odiham & Greywell at the David Roth Memorial Ground in Easton. The toss was always going to be critical in light of heavy rain overnight and the opposition skipper, Hellings , called right and inserted Easton on a sticky dog of a wicket.
John Sparks and Paul Sanders opened for Easton and the first wicket fell at 7 when Sanders was caught at fine leg for 5. Trev Foreman then joined John and the score was take to 73 when John was stumped for 45(2 sixes and 5 fours) off the bowling of Hartnett.
Ben Stanbrough was next at the crease and he and Foreman took the score to 110 ( but off 34 overs ) when both got out on 27. Skip Dave Ling for once failed and next batsmen Rupert Brow and teenager Will Wickham took the score to 130 when Rupert was bowled by Hellings for 8. Will Wickham, batting very stylishly, was bowled by Hodgson for 12 trying to force the pace. Veteran Peter Duff , the teenage brothers Mitchel ( Sky & Joey ) chipped in to take the score to 135 for 9 after 42 overs.
A great tea provided by The Chestnut Horse was enjoyed by all.
It was important that Easton’s got early wickets but this proved to be very difficult as openers Hellings and Mcgaughrin rode their considerable luck on a much improved wicket to take the score to 86 when Hellings was caught and bowled by Will Wickham for 39 (4 fours ).
Mcgaughrin was run out with a direct hit from the boundary by Will Wickham for 46 (4 fours ) with the scores level on 135 in the 33rd over. Sebborn ( not out 20 ), in the next over , hit the winning run to secure victory for Odiham & Greywell by 8 wickets.
Easton’s bowlers bowled well and they recorded the following stats: Ben Stanbrough ( 5-0-19-0 ), sixteen year old Sky Mitchell ( 10-2-24-0 ), Trev Foreman ( 3-0-10-0) Peter Duff ( 4-0-16-0 ), thirteen year-old Joey Mitchell ( 4-0-22-0), 15 year-old Will Wickham ( 4-0-19-1) & Rupert Brow ( 3-0-20-0)-so some great experience for a very talented group of colts! Easton took 5 points and Odiham & Greywell 23. Easton’s man of the match was John Sparks for his 45 runs in difficult batting conditions.
