EMW 2's v Colden Common 2's

On a Saturday which at 10am looked like the game was at risk due to inclement weather , EMW 2's welcomed Colden Common 2's to a sunny David Roth Memorial ground looking great and on a drying wicket with some early season bounce which is a credit to all the ground staff.

Captain Foreman won the toss and invited Colden Common to bat. Young Ethan Brackstone opened the bowling up the hill and with the 4th ball of his first over removed skipper Simon Kelly for a duck with a beautiful delivery! Despite 4 catches missed during the innings EMW bowled out Colden Common for 90 including a magnificent run out by Matt Cooper. Top score for Colden Common was 20 by C.James their number 4 batsman. The top wicket taker for EMW was Matt Cooper with 3 for 26, Ethan Brackstone & Trevor Yeates each took 2 wickts for 15 and 10 respectively and Ben Stanbrough & Trevor Foreman 1 wicket each for 19 and 17 respectively.

So far so good!

EMW soon found themselves 67 for 9 with only Martin Hall with 10 , Andy Macleod with 17 and newcomer Dave Ling with 11 making double figures. Ben Stanbrough , having tweaked a thigh muscle during his bowling spell, arrived at the wicket with Paul Sanders as his runner so at this juncture Colden Common thought they were in the pound seats to win the match.

Ben Stanbrough and Trev Foreman put on a 26 run partnership to win the game in the 38th over with Ben 15 not out, including 2 much needed 4's, and Trev 16 not out.

The game was played in a good spirit and some of the Colden Common guys joined Easton in the Cricketers for a drink or two after the match!
